Lightroom Classic

Publish from Lightroom Classic into a client gallery

Latentshoot installs into Lightroom Classic as a publish service. A collection set becomes a gallery, each published collection inside it becomes a set, and your client’s selects appear in the Comments panel in the Library.

Version 1.3.0, one zip for Mac and Windows. The plugin is on every plan, free included.

How it is arranged

Your collections become the gallery

Latentshoot sits in the Publish Services panel beside your other publish services. Make a collection set under it and choose the shoot it is for. Each published collection you put inside becomes a set in that shoot’s gallery, with the same name and the same order.

When you edit a photograph that has already been published, Lightroom marks it to publish again, and publishing replaces it in the gallery. The proofs and the retouched files reach the client on the same link.

On the shoot day, publish between set-ups into a gallery opened for today and the client picks from the new frames as they arrive. That is part of Studio. Proofing on the shoot day.

Each collection set has to be linked to a shoot, because the gallery takes its title, the client and the shoot date from that shoot rather than from anything typed into Lightroom. The settings list your shoots with the wrapped ones first, and you can create a new shoot there if the one you want is not listed. What a gallery holds.

Signing in

A code in Lightroom, approved in your account

Press Sign in and Lightroom shows you a short code and opens your browser at Latentshoot. You sign in there as you normally would, read what the plugin is asking for, and approve it. Lightroom then continues on its own.

You approve it on Latentshoot’s own site, signed in to your own account, so you can see which team you are connecting before you agree. Your password is never typed into Lightroom. The plugin can see your team’s shoots and their clients’ names, create shoots, create and rename galleries and sets, and upload, replace and delete photographs.

The plugin is listed under Account, in Integrations, beside any assistants you have connected, with who approved it and when. Disconnecting it there stops it working straight away.

Publishing

Photographs upload straight from your computer

Lightroom exports each photograph, and the plugin uploads it from your computer straight to the gallery’s storage.

If your storage is already full when you publish, the plugin stops before exporting anything and tells you your plan and its storage limit. If the storage fills part-way through, the photographs that fit are published and Lightroom lists each one that did not. A photograph with the same filename as one already in the set is not uploaded, and the message names the file.

The plugin fixes the export settings on every publish, as sRGB JPEGs with a set long edge and a maximum file size, so a preset left over from another job cannot change them. Lightroom’s watermark setting stays as you set it, so leave it off if the gallery has a watermark of its own in Latentshoot, which marks the copies the client sees and leaves the published files clean.

Your star ratings and your picks and rejects go with each photograph, whatever the export’s Metadata setting is. Latentshoot uses them only on a photograph you have not already starred or flagged there, so a cull you started in Latentshoot is kept.

On Pro and Studio, a collection can send each photograph’s RAW file as well, so that Develop can edit from it. It is off for every collection until you turn it on:

  1. In the Library module, right-click the published collection and choose Edit Collection.
  2. Tick Also send the RAW file. The plugin sends each RAW file after its JPEG.
  3. For photographs published before that, choose Library > Plug-in Extras > Send missing RAW files.

Coming back

The selects arrive in the Comments panel

When your client selects a photograph in the gallery, the select appears in the Comments panel for that photograph in the Library, with the name they gave and any note they wrote. Lightroom fetches the selects after every publish and whenever you refresh the panel.

When the client approves a round of a photograph you retouched in Latentshoot, the approval appears in the same panel. How rounds and approval work.

Latentshoot also lists the selected filenames, ready to paste into Lightroom’s filter.

Getting the plugin

Download it and add it to Lightroom

The plugin is one zip for Mac and Windows. Unzip it, and in Lightroom Classic choose File, then Plug-in Manager, press Add and choose the folder. Latentshoot then appears in the Publish Services panel, and the first thing it asks you to do is sign in.

The download page has each step, the files in the zip and a checksum to compare against.

Without the plugin, export the photographs and drag them onto the Gallery screen in Latentshoot. The client gets the same gallery on the same link, but the selects do not come back into Lightroom.

Where it stops

What this version does not do

Photographs only. Clips are left out of a publish. What your client sees is always an sRGB JPEG, and a RAW file sent with it is kept for Develop and never shown to them.

It deletes photographs and nothing else. Deleting a published photograph from your catalogue asks whether to remove it from Lightroom only or from Lightroom and the gallery. Deleting a collection in Lightroom leaves the set in the gallery. Sets, galleries and shoots are deleted in Latentshoot.

Gallery settings stay in Latentshoot. The download size, a password on the link and the closing date are all set there. On the free plan a client can download photographs at web size, and a gallery closes 90 days after you publish it. What each plan allows.

Questions

About the plugin

Which version of Lightroom does this work with?
Lightroom Classic, the version with a catalogue on your own computer. Lightroom on the web and on a phone cannot take a plugin, so from those you export the photographs and drag them onto the Gallery screen in Latentshoot. The same goes for Capture One.
Do I have to give the plugin my password?
No. Lightroom shows a code, and you approve that code in your Latentshoot account in a browser. Your password is never typed into Lightroom. You can disconnect the plugin under Account, in Integrations, and it stops working straight away.
What does publishing send?
One JPEG per photograph, uploaded from your computer straight to the gallery's storage. On Pro and Studio, a collection can also send each photograph's RAW file after its JPEG, for Develop to edit from. Your star ratings and your picks and rejects go with each photograph. Publishing again sends only the photographs Lightroom has marked as changed.
Will the client see them in the order I arranged?
Yes. The first publish sends the order you arranged in the collection. If you then change the order in Latentshoot, publishing again keeps your new order and adds new photographs at the end, unless you choose Use Lightroom’s order instead on the Photographs tab. Renaming the collection renames the set.
Can it delete my photographs?
It can remove photographs from a gallery and nothing else. When you delete a published photograph from your catalogue, it asks whether to remove it from Lightroom only or from Lightroom and the gallery. Sets, galleries and shoots can only be deleted in Latentshoot.
Does it publish clips?
No. The plugin publishes photographs only and leaves clips out. A day of stills and motion is still planned on one shot list, but a gallery holds only the photographs.

Deliver the shoot you planned
